Impero 8432 on Windows 11

First of, yes, I know it's old software, it's due for replacement as part of a massive refresh somewhen next year, but it's what I've got for now...

 

Secondly, yes, I know it's stupid, but we don't have direct support with Impero for it, it was deemed too expensive to renew when we knew we were going to get something different during the equipment refresh.

 

I'm trying to install 8432 on a windows 11 PC but it throws up the old chestnut about insufficient privileges to start the services.

 

I've dism enabled netFX, but it hasn't made any difference.

 

 

I have 2 questions, one may answer the other...

 

Is 8432 actually compatible with Windows 11?

 

How do I fix the issue if it is?

Yeah a Windows 11 Security patch broke older versions. We had to update all the clients to fix it

The changelog mentions 11 SE, does it apply to 11 too?

Don't think there's a reason to install .net 4.8.1, it's not a security update

It Does indeed, as I say I remember one day watching our clients go offline and stay offline unless we held an update back. kb5011048 I think it was. Impero updated their client to fix it

I've spoken to our purse strings and there is money in the budget for next year for it.

 

Windows 11 is not on Student devices yet, only Admin, SLT & Teacher take-home devices, so we've made the decision not to push any further 11 upgrades (we were going to start Suites at Xmas) until we've got a working, supported, safeguarding install.

Yeah it's specifically .net 4.8.1 that is the issue. If you can update Windows 11 (such as install 21H2 and run security updates without the 22h2 feature update) then you'll be fine for now but the ISO for 22H2 has 4.8.1 embedded. Fortunately Windows 10 22H2 didn't come with the .net 4.8.1 update.
