Good afternoon,

Has anybody seen this behaviour before? A 'Connecting' dialogue box that appears and hangs there the first time users try to open or save anything in Office applications for the first time every day, once connected everything is fine but the box will come back on restart.

I've attached an image and I'm wondering if maybe it's DFS\DNS related?

Thank you

I also have this, seems to only occur for us on machines with office365 apps. Haven't found a fix but it has made me halt on fully upgrading from 2016 until I do.

We had this, too. It's a bug (or feature) of the latest O365 update. I will assume your update channel is Current or Monthly.

Roll your version back to the Semi-Annual channel. Fixed it completely for us.

Edit: I should add that when troubleshooting the problem, once the user clicks "Save" once and it makes a connection, it will work flawlessly for each 'save' thereafter*. It's something to do with how the latest version is handling folder redirection and hangs on making the connection to the server. As all that gumf is deprecated, or becoming so, it will be an issue when the Semi-Annual channel catches up.

Fix in beta so not rolling out until Dec/Jan to the current/monthly channels.

Caused by having documents mapped to %HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH%” in your ad profile. Office bug is trying to use the webclient

service first which is causing the slowdown.

Potential workaround is to set the gpo of office Default file location to the actual drive such as h:\
