Adobe Animate

Having trouble with Adobe Animate (any version) refusing to open for network users - Pupils & Staff.

 

Devices being used:

 

Lenovo M70q - 11DU for pupil IT suites.

Lenovo E495 laptops for 6th Form

Lenovo E14 laptops for Staff

 

 

I've pre-installed a selection of apps using PDQ (Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Character Animator, Media Encoder) to reduce a bit of strain on the network. All software seems to open fine without any issues and runs perfectly for staff and pupils alike, apart from Adobe Animate.

 

It'll load the splash screen, then build the workspace and just hang. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, even set it so the users are able to install/uninstall/update applications from within the Creative Cloud app and done it under a staff test login and a pupil test login.

 

It'll run for me on my Administrator account, it'll work for pupils & staff if running as Administrator. I've been through all my GPOs looking for restrictions, even Adobe crash logs don't seem to be pointing me in any direction. I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out over it.

I've ensured all users have read-write permissions on the following folders as well:

What type of profiles do you use for pupils?

All user folders are redirected to a fileshare (Desktop, Docs, Pictures, Videos etc) AppData isn't redirected.

 

I've not long taken over this network and still figuring out how it's set up.

 

Pupils use HWB to login on Creative Cloud/Adobe software. With regards to Welsh Gov and the Ceredigion SLA - we are not a HWB school, we're a Google School.

Not user folders as such, but the profiles are of interest. If they’re redirected or roaming, Adobe’s suites of software can play up.

 

We use CC21 with the same Hwb licensing - all our users are on local profiles but it did work with mandatory ones (which act like local). We don’t use Hwb for much else.

 

Check a user’s AD properties and the profile tab to see of you have roaming profiles, and GP settings to see if AppData is redirected.

Turns out it's the file permissions on the truenas file server. Something's bugged and causing them to apply in an incorrect order.

 

Been advised the only way to resolve it is apparently to rebuild it. If only I had found this a couple of weeks ago, half-term would have been ideal. Now I've got an IT teacher wanting it done asap when the file server holds all the redirected profile folders. Yikes.

Had this with another school in my area and after a lot of toubleshooting and investigation I pinned it down to the actual permissions of the their home drive folders on their server. The funny thing is I never actually pinned it down to an actual permission entry - all I i know is when I manually created a new home dirve folder, set all the permissions conrrectly and file sharing etc - adobe worked fine as soon as I moved that users home drive to the new folder path.

 

A strange one as I initially discounted home folder permissions as on a quick look, they looked fine, but there was somthing in there that adobe did not like at all.

 

So yes we had to rebuld the entire home drive folder for the entire school, then change all the home folder entries in AD to the new folder, then robocopy transfer all the old data making darmn sure to inherit permissions off the new folder structure rather than transferrring permissions from the old folder structure!

 

Worked. School now teaching adobe.

Exactly the same issues and process I've gone through with regards to the home drive folders! In hindsight, because everything looked fine it left me going in circles believing the issue was elsewhere. Cue miffed IT teacher because it's taken me so long

 

All the home drives have been copied to a new directory and Tuesday I'll be repointing them to their new locations. Fingers crossed there's no more hiccups. That reminds me, I need to send a reminder email that this is happening on Tuesday.
