Strange one this, teachers laptop cameras and also usb cameras have stopped working. By that I mean either the camera won't open or it opens and freezes every few seconds.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the camera driver with no luck

We have this on 2 different laptops models, but they were installed from the same image.

Have tried most general idea's surfing around the net

We did do an in-place upgrade to 21H2 over the summer and my best guess is something happened at this point.

I can try some other things but slightly panicking at the moment as we have some 140+ laptops and the teachers will soon by doing a remote parents evening.

I'm hoping someone can provide some clues or experiences

Thanks in advance

I found doing in place upgrades to 21H2 did some weird stuff like this and affected our Office licencing too where Word would only open as admin. A full reimage was required. Hopefully someone can shed light on if they managed to restore functionality without reimaging.

This could be my worst fear. We do in-place upgrades because teachers have stuff installed etc, so really really don't want to reimage.

on the off chance is there any GPO or privacy permissions setting for allow camera that isn't carried over, or GPO now being enforced on 21H2 Edited by ittech2342323

We had this as well when we in-place upgraded. The drivers seemed like they reinstalled themselves from windows update and those that weren’t explicitly in an upgrade/servicing driver update for 21H2 got uninstalled even if one listed as being 1909 worked perfectly fine.
