Dos_Box Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 I kinda like the first one in a it's-so-terrible-it's-good kind of way. It was like they'd never played the game at all (which they probably hadn't).
Cat_Jam148 Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 I'm glad they didn't reduce Bowser to generic villain who spurts a witty one-liner. Still not sure about Chris Pratt as Mario though...
ITGuyNW Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 I think Chris Pratt will be fine and there will be sections of charles martinet throughout. I think the video game voice would become annoying after a solid 90 minutes.
DalekSec Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Wait, where's Bob Hoskins? Don't tell me Mario has been recast! 1
paulkerton Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Wait, where's Bob Hoskins? Highgate Cemetery. 1
Arthur Posted November 30, 2022 Author Posted November 30, 2022 (edited) New trailer with Luigi, Peach and Donkey Kong. What's with Mario's voice?? Mario's voice in the Italian trailer is much better. Edited November 30, 2022 by Arthur 1
Sonic007 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Will probably take the kids to see this since they are all Nintendo fans now with the Switch console.
Dos_Box Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Anyone gone to seee this yet? I'm contemplating going to see it tonight, I've heard it's basically a lot of fan service (which is fine by me), but tons of fun too.

Yes, it is a bit generic at times but still good fun. It really does play on Bowser being the big bad *and* the comic relief at the same time. I can easily see it being turned into a film franchise or at least a running series the way Trolls and Boss Baby have done.
Norphy Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 I posted in the movies thread about this, but yes my almost 7 year old son and I went to see it during the holidays. We both enjoyed it, there isn't much in the way of laugh out loud moments like there are in the Lego movie but it was still fun enough. I think that @ITGuyNW is right that an hour and half of Game-Mario voice would have been annoying as hell, Chris Pratt was fine if a little generic. Bowser was amusing enough, the Kongs was fun and I was glad that Peach wasn't just a damsel in distress who needed rescuing like she is in most of the games. The audience score on RT is still 96% which is telling. I think my biggest criticism to it compared to the Sonic movies is that it has very little in the way of plot; the Sonic movies have game references but are still accessible to people who have never played Sonic before because there's an actual story in there somewhere, whereas the story in Mario is very thin and the film itself is an hour and a half of game references which only fans of the game will get. 2

I do get the impression that this will do wonders for Nintendo sales, after all, it's essentially a 1.5 hour commercial. Saying that, so was the Lego Movie. The Switch wil be flying off the shelves in the wake of this! Which is no bad thing as I do like the Switch and I really must buy another (long story) as you can get them used for about £150 on places like FB Marketplace wth some games thrown in.
