We have just had an email from a well known supplier offering Geobook 2E at less than cost price!

Wanted to know peoples thoughts on these devices. Was it the Geobook 2E or 1E that came from the DfE?

Seem underpowered to run Windows 10 Eduction Pro.

1E was the horror show that people were first given

Geo GeoBook 1E Education Laptops - HORRIBLE! (edugeek.net)

2E might be fine but the specs don't fill me with hope - 4gb ram, 64gb eMMC, Intel Celeron N3450? It might run office. Wouldn't trust it with multitasking or much in particular.

It doesn't support Windows 11 - this may not matter if you're going to put ChromeOS Flex on them but otherwise they're short-life.

Personally, I'd rather spend the money on upgrades for existing PCs.

Looking at their website I can't actually see any difference in spec between the 1e and 2e besides that the 2e comes with Windows 10 Pro Education.

Geo Computers strikes me as a company that sells computers around components that no one else wants or can't sell, which is why I found it odd that the 1E came with a N4020 and all the other laptops we got came with a N4120. I can't be far wrong given that the 2E is being sold with a much older N3450.

If they’re selling below cost, that would suggest to me that no-one wants them. The question I would then ask is ‘Why?’, and going by experience with the DfE ones the answer is going to be ‘Because they’re rubbish’.

As the old saying goes: Buy cheap, buy twice.

You don't want these, they are complete and utter hot garbage. We called them the "Aldi special" except they're not that good.

The worst laptops the DFE bought/provided during Covid (Followed closely by the rubbish Toshiba's with broken batteries)

They could pay customers £84 per unit to take them off their hands and it would still be overpriced.
