Adding to an existing package

Hey,

 

Quick one - does anyone know if it's possible (CC3) to add something to an existing package.

 

Basically we have a package without a license key and I was wanting to include the key in the package without having to recreate a new one.

Depending on how well the original package was built you might be able to do with Orca - Orca.exe (Windows)

Well CC3 uses Wininstall LE 2003, open your MSI in that and add files in there.

Make it a new package and de-allocated the old one before installing the new one, otherwise you could get machines that sulk with the changes you have made.

You may be able to create a dummy package with a registry entry for the serial number and roll that out on top. I have done the same thing a few times and it has worked before for me.

Take advantage of the version controls built in with CC3 packaging so as to as Rob said modify the package but rather than create a whole new 'deployment' upgrade an existing with an incremented version number.
