We have a Ruckus Virtual Smartzone - Essentials.

I'd like to create a wireless network that accepts 2.4G clients only. Is there a way to limit a new wireless network in this way?

I can see the option to disable all the 5G channels within Access Points > Select Zone > Configure group, but I don't want to disable 5G across all my APs, I want to disable it for all clients connecting to a particular WLAN.

The problem I have is some devices require a connection to a 2.4G network, they don't work on 5G. I've create a WLAN for them but they still won't connect. I suspect it's because they're trying to connect via 5G. I just can't see a way of turning that off or forcing them to connect to 2.4G.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, it is possible, and slightly more involved than the Unleashed set-up.

You need to create two WLAN groups.

In group 1 - add all of your networks

In group 2- add all the networks, except the one that only needs 2.4Ghz

Go to AP Groups and change the 2.4 WLAN group to group 1.

Then go to 5Ghz and change to group 2 - without the 2.4 SSID

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've tried creating separate groups but there doesn't seem to be a way of limiting a group to 2.4G or 5G. I can add or remove WLANs from a group, but there doesn't seem to be anything else I can configure beyond those memberships, the group name and description.

Just to confirm, are you going to the Access Point group to make the change?

To get there - click into the Zone along the left-hand side of the dash.

You will see from the drop-down menu under the Zone, your AP Groups. If you only have one group this will just say default.

Click the pencil icon top left of the menu you're on. That will bring up a new window.

On the 2.4Ghz tab go to the WLAN Group - select override to 'On' then choose the WLAN group with all networks. Repeat the last step on the 5Ghz tab, selecting the WLAN group without the 2.4 only SSID.

Click Ok. Test.

Let me know how you get on.

Brilliant! Thank you.

That has worked like a dream. I had never noticed the options changed when you highlighted one of the groups and clicked on the pencil before. Thanks a lot.

It's definitely broadcasting 2.4g only one one particular WLAN now. I still can't get one of the CCTV cameras to connect, but that looks like a separate issue since other devices are connecting.

Thank you for your help.
