Hi all

Mrs mikeprice uses those vape things.

Clearly they use a small li battery to vaporise the fluid and they 'wear out'

Now - she is saying that she has some that are getting low on power and some that are starting to head that way so I though I would try testing them to see what is what

There is a clear terminal at the bottom of the screw thread - and the barrel acts as the other terminal

so I connected a multi-meter to both and tested it

go a reading of 3.5 - 3.6 V of the ones that are one their way out

and a LOWER voltage from the ones that are working fine

which seems strange to me

anyone any idea what is happening?

It's going to be the current draw that's important here, not the voltage.

It sounds like you are using the ce4 style batteries, they are quite cheap and cheerful, I'd look for something that uses 18650 cells, you can get a much more robust battery then, and it will probably outlast all the others combined!

I agree with the idea of using better cells

However, the batteries that fit her ecig do not mention which type of cells are in the sealed unit that we buy

She only wants ones that are tubes about as thick as an AA battery so that limits what I can get for her

To test the health of a battery you need to measure its internal resistance, not voltage, you can do this by measuring its voltage and then measuring it again under a controlled load. Internal resistance also changes as the voltage of the battery drops so make sure you test them all at the same voltage to start with. https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/measuring-internal-resistance-of-batteries/internal-resistance

21700 Cells are much better for high loads, I use the Molicel ones in my electric Mountain board.

I might be stating the obvious but I have found that charging the non removal batteries using a higher rated usb adapter will degrade the batteries a lot quicker. Same goes for the 18650's in a charger.

Those devices with non removable batteries only last a year or so at best in my opinion if you are a heavy vaper.

If you do go for a new device with removable batteries, please watch out for dodgy battery makers. My preference would be to buy these from a shop as opposed to online.

Not charging your device or batteries overnight also helps extend battery life and prevent a fire risk.
