Hi All,

 

We have an account called ThermalCamera@ on our Office 365 portal and I've checked in the admin portal under 'Active Users - ThermalCamera - Mail - Mail Apps' that SMTP is on but all our thermal cameras that connect to it have recently stopped being able to send emails.

 

They're Hikvision cameras, and come up saying Wrong Username and Password which is incorrect as I can login to the account using the same credentials just fine?

 

Any ideas or is there an option in O365 I need to ensure is ticked for SMTP to work properly?

Check Message Centre. Legacy auth is getting switched off in October. However SMTP is not being turned off for legacy auth. If you have unused protocols they may have already been disabled.

MS are working to kill off basic authentication, but if I'm reading https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/deprecation-of-basic-authentication-exchange-online correctly, then basic auth for SMTP should continue to be available.

 

SMTP AUTH will still be available when Basic authentication is permanently disabled on October 1, 2022. The reason SMTP will still be available is that many multi-function devices such as printers and scanners can't be updated to use modern authentication.

 

My guess is that basic auth for SMTP has become disabled by default, and you're needing an option somewhere to opt back into it for that account.

 

Edit: Google school here, so not familiar with the MS options around this.

Thanks all, it's a bit confusing as our SMTP authentication is still working on our scanner@ email that the printers use to scan to email with.

 

I've double checked and SMTP is definetley still enabled on that account under active users.

 

Is there another option anyone can point me in the direction of? I've tried Googling but can't find anywhere else really.

I've seen this happen before. Solution? No idea. It just started to work again a day later.

 

Try sticking wireshark in the middle and seeing what's happening on the wire. Tricky due to TLS but maybe some insight can be gleaned.
