Adobe acrobat for redaction

We have a fairly large SAR to complete. Previously we have manually redcacted and scanned but this time we want to do it electronically. It looks like adobe acrobat will do what we want, 2 questions:

 

1. Is there education pricing for this, if we are just buying 3 licences? We don't have any other adobe products at the moment.

 

2. If you redact a document, is there an option to save it with the redaction marked, but not actually redacted, and then save a redacted copy? From previous experience this would be really useful - if we get a query about what we have redacted, to be able to see it marked up but still be able to read it all.

Sorry I cannot answer Q1, but yes to Q2 - I used it a few months ago for a SAR and found it extremely useful, much better than a Sharpie and paper copies!

You first mark the text and/or whole pages for redaction, but it's not until the next step that it actually carries out the redaction, so you can save a copy in between. It also lets you move pages around easily, add a watermark, page numbering etc. I also added blank pages between each document or email trail to make it easier to manage (as they were all combined into one long file).

We use Acrobat here for Sars etc it's brilliant the DPO is so happy.

 

We get it via Welsh Government Licencing so no idea what you would have to do to license it - it's part of the creative cloud suite but not sure if you can buy individual programs or not?

Yes, you can save it with the redactions all marked in so that the staff involved (and sometimes lawyers) can collaborate. We have a SAR Team for that so that we have a single safe repository.

 

You only finalise the document and 'sanitise' it of all meta-data in the final stage before sending it off.

Looks like there is education pricing, but it's still pretty expensive at very low numbers of users, around £170 per user for what we want.

Is this Nitro PDF? We bought a copy of it for works use at £60 5 years ago, just checked now and a license costs £180 !!

PDF complete was great for the SAR I had complete a few years ago.

We got 3 licences for adobe acrobat in the end. Admin team are working through it now, loads of really good feedback from them - it is a huge leap forward from the one we manually did 4 years ago! Especially love the ability to have a marked up, but not actually redacted copy that we can keep, will make it a lot easier if we get any queries come back.

I thought the subject was obliged to accept it in any format you provide that is generally readable?

 

I wouldn't be wasting paper on a SAR.
