Windows 10 and Windows 11

Hi all, can you tell me if there is a significant difference between using Windows 10 and Windows 11?

In use the only differences are trivial. The Start button is in the middle at the bottom of the screen instead of the left hand side and there's no search box. I never use either anyway - I just it's the Windows key and start typing the name of what I want. In the right click context menu there are icons at the top for cut, copy and paste instead of having them listed - but I use keyboard shortcuts most of the time.

 

Other than that, the sounds are a bit more subtle and they've rounded off the corners of the Windows.

The differences are mostly under the surface, Windows 11 is much more secure and makes better use of hardware security such as TPM, CPU features, virtualisation for core isolation, secure boot etc.

 

In my opinion, it's also faster than W10 on the same hardware.

For the purposes of day to day usage, Windows 11 is essentially a theme pack.

 

It's not, but the changes are almost entirely cosmetic from an end user point of view.

Be aware that you can't redirect a start menu in Windows 11, or so I'm told.

If you want to customise it, you need to use InTune.

 

Aside from that, I've been running Windows 11 on my work PC for a while now and everything seems to be fine.

Thank you! I have Windows 10 now, I was wondering if I should upgrade to Windows 11.

But for now I decided to stay on Windows 10.

I have redirected the Windows 11 with Folder Redirection just fine!

Hi All I am trying to redirect start menu in win11 for apps shortcuts can any one confirm if this is not applicable in win11

The "All Apps" start menu redirect does not work in windows 11.

The "All Apps" shortcuts come from 2 locations,

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

C:\Users\%username%l\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

The first location is for all users, and has high security, to prevebnt changes

The second location, is per user, and is writeable for each user, so a logon script, can put the necessary shortcuts, into that location, for a particular user.

I can see redirection creating the shortcuts on my given path but somehow those shortcuts are not visible under pinned apps

any suggestion

I have redirected start menu from GPO & new redirected path is C:\Start. I can see all the shortcuts getting populated under C:\Start\%username%\Start menu\Programs\...

But when i look under pinned apps under start menu its not same.

Windows 11 does not like UNC shortcuts, or network shortcuts.

When testing I manually added shortcuts to my own "Start Menu - All Apps", and then checked to see if I could see the shorcut in the menu.

 

As the user profile, has a section for the start menu -all apps, I have added new shortcuts into my generic local user profile template.

And I have a startup script to sync the local copy, with the copy on a server.

I can see desired shortcuts in all apps of start menu but not showing under pinned apps. strange
