We are looking to move to Office 2021 using config manager. We are having issues getting the installation to work, having had similar issues with Office 2019. Would anyone be able to share their installation files for Office 2021 (volume license) and XML?

Thanks

Thanks, this really helps.

Do you have installation files that you can send by Dropbox?

It's a shame when these things don't work as you would expect.

Ours is a bit longer as I went through all the options at https://config.office.com/deploymentsettings at the time.

I have various versions - the students get far fewer apps. @RLR's contains the necessaries.

The last time I had a problem was when I mistyped the name of the configuration.xml in the installation line

setup.exe /configure NameOfConfigurationFile.xml

You're best off downloading the Office Deployment Tool, which will give you the setup.exe and some example config files and using

setup.exe /download NameOfConfigurationFile.xml

which will generate the files based on your configuration.

Anyone know why the device based licensing field is not available in the ODT? I will be activating using AD based activation. Unless I am misunderstanding this surely it should be set to be device based licensing???

:mod:

Nobody can send you that.

This is licensed, ie paid for, software and anyone doing this would be breaking their license agreement and be in big legal trouble.

Just found that the easiest way to deploy Office 2021 in Config Manager (Current Branch) is the use the Office365 Client Management module in Config Manager itself. It takes you through ODT and automatically creates the package. All you need to do is deploy it. In terms of the device licensing options not being available in the ODT (it does write user based activation = 1 to the XML) I left this intact and it still seems to activate correctly using AD based activation. I think as long as the KMS option is selected in the ODT this is not an issue. For those who do not know this I had to contact Microsoft to have KMS keys released for Server 2022 and Office 2021 as they are no longer assigned automatically in the VLSC.

There are no files to share. It's a click-to-run setup so you download the office deployment tool exe and run the commands to install office: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/ltsc2021/deploy

You can choose to run the /download command which will download the files needed locally so when you come to install the software you're not using internet bandwidth. If you've got a decent connection you can just choose to install office directly from the internet using the /configure command.

setup.exe /configure "\\location\of\xml\file.xml"
