Ideally would like to purchase a new desktop before next week with XP Pro.

 

Is anywhere still shipping with XPPro? Ideally she's looking for a dell, but the only option is vista with them. Are there any dell resellers or anything to check out.

 

(Im sure there was a thread about xp and who was still shipping recently, but I cant find it, and the similar topic thing doesnt seem to be working when Im making this post)

We dont sell dell but all the other manufacturers we deal with do XP-Pro (HP, Fujitsu-Siemens, NEC & Acer) Edited June 25, 2008 by western

I know for a fact that Dell are doing a downgrade package for all the new computers for the next 2 years. I have just bought 74 machines off them.

Timbo, is that only on telephone orders, as on the website there is only the option for vista home of vista business with no mention of a xp downgrade. How do you get a XP code off them?

Microsoft seem to be pushing OEMs not to invoice for systems with XP installed after next Monday (30 June). We buy from Viglen and they've told us that they will have to ship with Vista after that date (not a problem for us; Campus license allows downgrade rights and they're charging us the same for it and we always put our own image on the machines)

Read recently that January 2009 had been a new XP shipping expiry date, although MS did say only smaller hardware suppliers would ship XP after 30 June... but I could be wrong.

I think it maybe depends which part of the Dell website you look at - could have sworn the Small Business section still sells machines with XP Pro installed (you have to pay £40 extra, mind, but then the other option is Vista Home, which you would need to upgrade anyway).

we as a supplier are going to be supplying systems with XP pro installed for quite a while yet on brands such as HP,Dell,Fujitsu ect

At RabbieBurns: If you have a look at the schools area Schools, the Optiplex Dell 755 still has the option for XP. The order was a tender. Fortunately or us, our external account manager lives 10 mins away from us.

I am looking to buy for a personal client outwith the school, and they want either one of two systems, the optiplex isn't one of them.

If you have a nice ms sticker on the side of your new pc that says vista, cant you just install any version of windows prior to that?

is it illegal to install ms xp pro, using a vlk, on a retail pc with a vista license??

I believe that is allowed, but for my scenario here, the woman Im buying for won't have a VLK, and Im pretty sure I wouldnt be allowed to use the school one for something thats absolutely nothing to do with the school.
