Google Chrome version 101.0.4951.41 - home / start page issue

Recommended Posts

Our machines have started downloading and installing Google Chrome version 101.0.4951.41 and it appears it breaks our Group Policy setting URLs to open on startup even though Chrome is showing the home / start page to be set correctly.

Can someone else please test this as our other chrome versions are working as expected.

Seems to be OK here , I have just updated my Chrome to this version and all seems to be working fine

Spoke to soon , just had a user with the same issue you are having.

Reddit sysadmin reporting same thing:

Not seen it here though so not sure if it’s only certain versions of their gpo files or what not

(Note the workaround that says if you change url even back to same in gpo it seems to kick it back into play)

I've updated the adml and admx files too and that doesn't seem to fix either.

Looks like we have to sit tight on this one and be prepared to install an older version of Chrome when users report the issue.

Just said above but was slow, they said a workaround is to modify the gpo url which seems to kick it back into play

Might be worth a shot

Re-adding the URL for the startup page doesn't work either, seems to be an issue with the version.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for taking time to bring the issue of Chrome not enforcing some group policies to our attention. This issue may be causing your intended startup pages to not be shown to users that have had group policy applied. We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing.

We've identified the root cause of this behavior, and we're working on pushing out the fix as quickly as possible. We will share an update on this thread once the fix has rolled out.

We appreciate your patience as we work on resolving this.

Best,

Rebecca - On behalf of the Chrome Enterprise Team

Just a FYI todays release had the fix in if you’re manually rolling updates out

I'm running Chrome 108.0.5359.125 (64-bit) and I can't get this to work. I was using GPO templates dated 08/2021. I updated to templates dated 12/12/2022 and created a new GPO and it is still not working. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanx
