Drones

[Timetable]

Hi All,

 

I'm after advice/sale of some drones that were donated to the school. A local business donated them a few years ago as they were moving towards fixed wing drones and thought we might be able to utilise them.

 

My knowledge of them is no existent and no-one here wants to take on they project so they are just collecting dust. They need controllers and battery packs so I think this has hampered progress with them.

 

One has a broken legs issue, but it looks liek it was before we got it. there are a load of bits and bobs to go with them in a box too.

 

So,

 

We thought about selling them to purchase a parrot drone which look alot easier to work with, but don't know how much they are worth, or if anyone would want them or where to sell them even.

Does anyone here have any ideas or information on them? To be honest it would just be good to get them to someone who'd use them.

 

I've attached so photos of them and any information/advice would be grateful.

Certainly not the easiest thing to sort out, I fly/build quad drones but haven't kept up with it for some time. Couple of them look custom built, so not plug and play.

Look like they have video transmitters ( the white antenna on top) so could be first person view capable.

xt60 connector for the battery, so likely to be 3cell or 4 cell Lithium ion batteries.

Can't see what receiver it has so wouldn't be sure about controller compatiblity.

I do think your best bet would be to try and sell it all as spares but even that's tricky especially if they are custom built, all different parts!

Yes, they are custom built. The firm used to build them for different industries and for themselves to do surveying work.

@Timetable These do look like good drones. They are both quite dated now, the smaller 'Flamewheel' drone looks to have a DJI Naza FC with Compass and GPS, this will allow position hold and easy control just like a DJI Phantom. It also has a camera gimbal on the bottom, these are quite cheap if using 8bit software (£20-40). That drone is worth £100 all day long so if you can get anything above that then you have got a good deal.

 

The larger Hex is a bit more special, it looks like a DJI S800, its using a WooKong FC which is a serious bit of kit, this will allow full autonomy for waypoints and flight paths (lacks obstacle avoidance), I'm not sure what model its using or the age but these FC's alone are worth £400+ new (£600+ for the latest model). This drone is a lot harder to give a price on without closer inspection but you would be safe with a price over £250 for sure.

 

For a future purchase, take a look at the DJI Mini 2 or similar, avoid Parrot drones as they are no where near as well build/designed as the DJI one. Out of the box the mini2 will create movie quality shots with very little knowledge/training.

 

Sorry I couldn't give more details or help but these drones are in a different class to the type of drone I build and fly.

 

P.S The S800 looks to have a Spektrum RC Rx with satellite receiver (I can only see the satellite Rx so the main Rx must be within the body or on a leg. Seeing that RX on the S800 it might stand to reason the Flamewheel also has a Spektrum Rx. These receivers themselves are worth some money on their own (£40+)

Thank you so much for this. Its given me a starting point. Think i might just add it to eBay as a job lot with plenty photos. Something better than nothing and the equipment gathering dust when it could be put to use.
