iPad Mini 2 Strange Screen

Hi there,

I have had a member of staff come to me with their iPad stating that lines are showing at random times.

iPad is quite old being a Mini 2, no damage anywhere, screen all good, no damage. Fully up to date. It took some time to get it to exhibit the issue, I managed to trigger it by turning down the brightness.

 

I am assuming this will need a new screen. I don't really feel it is economical to repair, this one is not owned by the school, but by the teacher themselves.

Has anyone had this issue happen before? She is only using it for basic internet browsing, so although it is an old model, it is serving a purpose, but I am just conscious that to replace the screen might be half or more of the entire value of the device.

 

Any suggestions and thoughts would be great.

Used to get an issue similar to this quite a bit on our old iPad 2s

 

Required a little bit of 'percussive' maintenance. Lay flat on the table and forcefully hit the back with a large book.

 

I believe it was down to the display cable becoming slightly loose so this knocked it back into place.

 

Take care if you attempt this, I never damaged an iPad doing this but always felt like it could've. Good idea to let the staff member know if you plan on doing this.

Yeah, same as others have said. It happens frequently with the older iPads. I drop them from a foot or so off the ground, flat onto their back and bingo!

General consensus is usually to hit it (no not with a hammer this time surprisingly)... a gentle (ish) tap to the rear of the device.

Alternatively, if it comes and goes according to brightness, has the user got auto-brightness on? If so, can you turn that off and set it at a level where they don't appear (but is still useable)?
