Windows 10 Default Apps Change

Hi all,

 

A user purchased a new Windows 10 Pro laptop and it has been added to a domain. They have put some files and folders on the desktop (I have advised them to save to the server) and some shortcut's to various applications etc. Oddly, when they changed the default browser in settings everything on the desktop disappeared. When they reverted back to the original browser setting everything came back. This also happens if they change any other app default.

 

Any ideas please.

This probably isn't the response you're looking for, but if it were me I wouldn't add devices to the domain with the "shop bought" image still on, I'd wipe it and install our standard image.

I do agree with that.

 

The user hasn't done anything beforehand as it was unboxed when I was there and all 3rd party applications in Control Panel were removed. All that has been installed onto the laptop is Microsoft Office

If it were mine, I'd just wipe it. But if that's not an option, can you dump the user profile, be it local or roaming? Obviously save the desktop contents and anything else before you do so.
