iPad blurring/ghost screen

One of our iPad mini retinas has developed a fault whereby the screen is ghosting (see pic for better explanation).

If I turn it on it is OK for about 10 seconds and then it has the fault, even if I don't touch it.

Any ideas?

At this point I'd say it's probably pining for the fjords, but if there's no data on there, it might be worth putting it into DFU mode and doing a factory reset. I think that's probably about the only troubleshooting step you can take outside of taking it to an repair facility.

I'm not saying this is the case here, and could cause more harm than good, but:

 

We used to have a problem with iPad 2's when they got dropped where the screen would go "odd" colours and blurry. The quickest, un-offical, fix would be to give them a good slap on the back.

 

Possibly try this if nothing else works and the ipad is effectivelty dead.

 

(reminds me of slapping CRT screens in my youth to get them to work )

Not saying you haven't already, but just to note that it seems a very common problem. As in the 'slap on the back approach' some do mention pressure on the rear case helps, but most say the fix is intermittent/comes back once switched off/clears itself after a while. Can't see any software approach helping what appears to be a hardware/component issue (might not even be screen, but mainboard related)... If I saw this on any other screen I would presume it was and no point unless it was still worth it to you.

I have amazed many members of staff by giving their old iPads a slap on the back and fixing this issue.

To be honest problems like this annoy me...

 

It would appear to be fairly common and therefore you'd think by now enough people would have dealt with it and it would have a specific and well known point of failure and a fix (apart from slap it) even if that is replace the screen/mainboard, which should be widely advertised and at least be in the first few Google* search hits!

Looking at the issue I suspect it has something to do with the display cable. Perhaps over time it comes loose and so giving it a slap pops it back into position for a while.
