Admin access to CCTV system

Recommended Posts

We've just had a HikVision CCTV system installed.

I requested administrative access to the system from the installer and was told that it's industry practice not to provide this to the customer. Due to the attitude of the installers we won't be using them going forward.

Has anyone else had this?

No, it is your system - they should not have admin access at all as they are not entitled to access to your data. They should only have access when doing repairs etc.

If they have admin access, and you have it internet connected to view remotely, then the company has access to your footage for no legitimate reason.

We have admin control over all our CCTV systems.

Not had this nor ever heard of it, but seems a bit pointless when you can use the SADP tool together with an email to hikvision support to get it reset.

I guess it depends.

If the company just 'supplied and installed' and you have paid for the system, you now own it and if it is purely for the school's use then you are the only ones who need Admin access to the system.

If you have some sort of maintenance/support contract whereby they need to deal with things, possibly on a remote basis and you are 'hands off' (just viewing recordings) it might be different. We are all aware what could happen if someone untrained suddenly gets admin access to systems like that.

We brought it out right and purchased no support agreement although it is covered by a 1 year warranty.

I've since spoken to the company director who has agreed to provide admin access

Yep we have this issue, we have no admin rights to the PC which hikvision software installed. All fun if something goes wrong with the system

If you have physical access you can get admin access most of the time, boot from usb, reset the bios password, restart the database in single user mode with no security, etc
