CHiLL Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Start Layout File This is an XML file, which can be an absolute bugger to get right. It allows you to control the tile icons in the Start Menu, as well as the pinned Taskbar items. I highly recommend using Notepad++ to create and amend the XML file. There used to be issues with corrupt XML files due to formatting when using Windows' Notepad application. I don't know if this is still an issue, but I still use Notepad++ to edit my XML file. 1
Oaktech Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) Hi, I am unbale to find the Start layout in Group policy. I have looked in my local group policy on my machine and can see it but on the server its unavailable. Has anyone had this issue? Thanks I think you don't have a central store set up. You are seeing policies suitable for your machine on your machine and policies suitable for the server, on the server. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/group-policy/create-and-manage-central-store You also don't need to manually edit the XML, you an create it on a test computer and export it directly. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configuration/customize-and-export-start-layout Edited February 10, 2022 by Oaktech 1
chazzy2501 Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Also it only works on the enterprise and education editions of windows NOT Windows PRO 2
thimon Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 From my experience if you try to pin Microsoft Store Apps is breaks. 1
chazzy2501 Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Oh btw you can configure the layout in windows and export it, no need to manually figure it out. 2
