Electronic Registers

Hi,

 

Whats everyone using for electronic regsiters? we currenly have our own MIS and are using SIMS and dont plan on moving anytime soon. We currently use paper regsiters and then use the OMR machine to scan them into sims (Old school i know) hence why we want to move to electronic regsiters.

 

ideally something the teachers can use on their ipads or even log into an application on their class computers. We'd also like to be able to do the dinner registers and then a report can be sent over to the cook so she knows how many kids shes catering for on the day.

For catering, an attendance report filter for those who who have opted in to a meal..?

 

We are a large school and the kitchen team have a good feel for the number of meals they need to provide each day based on their experience. Obviously size here helps, a small cohort makes day to day variation of individuals' choice much more significant.

Do you mean the sims teacher app?

Just the standard sims client. People who want to use an ipad have to go in through Remote Desktop.

We dropped the OMRs 10 years ago and went with staff directly into the MIS. Then it was SIMS. New job its Bromcom and will be Bromcom for our primary moving forward. They currently do them in Google Sheets and then the office staff fill in SIMS for them... but obviously when we move to Bromcom that will change.

Our teachers take the register directly in the SIMS client as they all have laptops with it installed (not iPads).

 

I'm pretty sure I've heard them ask for menu options so they must take a dinner register at the same time probably as above.

Ours was limited to school dinner, packed lunch or home lunch. School office pre-populated with dietary requirements (halal, kosher, vegetarian, allergies) and lists were then given to the kitchen.

 

IIRC, we had to ensure we knew the whereabouts of all pupils within half an hour of school starting, so the electronic register went through to the office for them to chase anyone who the teacher had marked as absent without reason. Wouldn't like to add an extra delay into that process - definitely need to get class teachers taking registers electronically.

If you want a cost effective and simply just the register on their timetable we use 'Reggie' which works well and is installed on devices. A lot cheaper than SIMS app and other options and works well, our PE department and other staff on the move use it.

Thanks. i will look into that. might see if they can give me a trial so i can see how it works etc.
