Papercut MF in Azure

Is anyone else running their Papercut MF Server in Azure or AWS? Our print server is the only VM now on prem so I’m looking at moving it to Azure but I have no idea on how much this would cost per month/year so it would be good to know who has done this. I was looking at moving to Papercut Hive but it seems it’s just not suitable for education at the moment.

We run MF on a server in Azure.

We also have a DC in Azure.

We have a couple of other servers too.

 

We have a VPN back into out network from Azure that allows all our 4 schools to connect to the servers. And the printers connected to Papercut this way as well.

 

You should be able to do it on all one machine for about £70 per month, but we pay about £200 for all our services

Cool thanks. What specs are your VMs in azure for the DC and Papercut? I’m guessing you don’t have an onprem Papercut server?

All servers for us are Standard_B2ms sizes

I would keep a print server on site, reduce what you are sending when its all local data.

Branch office printing lets you print directly to each printer rather than sending the print data to the server. There is still some traffic which I'm trying to narrow down as to why its appearing but other than that it works absolutely flawlessly.

Thanks all for your help on this. Will papercut MF if we don’t have active directory and only use Azure AD? We have no on prem AD any more.

We user universal print and Papercut in Azure. The universal print it the bit that takes the time and is limited to 100MB by MS.

I'd be interested in the details of how you setup as universal print looks quite good.

Is that 100mb the file size limit for print jobs? Also how much do you pay per month for the papercut MF azure VM?

 

Also do you have a guide on how to setup universal print with papercut?

So you setup the Papercut universal connector in place of the MS one https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/UniversalPrintConnector. You then have to apply a license to all the users that you want to print. I am not sure of the cost of the Azure server as it has running other services.

I'm looking at new print providers. Has anyone used Canon Uniflow Online? It looks like a good solution. I hear Papercut Hive doesn't have any cost reporting features.

Just standalone. Our print rate isn’t massive so no need to cluster.

 

Just a normal setup really. We use other Azure services and host a number of VM so Papercut isn’t really a high priority of us when Azure has issues
