I have recently taken on the role of IT lead in a primary school and I'm currently trying to tidy up the mess my predecessor has left me. The biggest issue is I have half of our Apple devices in the old MDM which has expired, and the other half in a newer MDM which I will continue to use. I have contacted the old MDM provider who have given me temporary access to deactivate the MDM on the portal, having "forgotten" all the remaining devices, a factory reset has reinstalled the profile. The MDM provider have put me in the direction of Apple DEP which I do not have access too, nor the login details. Does anyone know a workaround to remove the profile on these devices, they are only a year or so old so it would be a shame to have to decommission them. TIA!

Your best way forward is to contact apple and give them the serial numbers of the IPADS. They will request for the invoice of all the IPADS and they will sort this for you for the factory reset or you have to get all the right password from your predecessor.

That so called solution will not work, this has nothing to do with where the iPads were purchased from. Apple will not under any circumstances remove a DEP Supervision profile, they do not even have access to the iPads or the ASM Schools account.

As IT lead I would have thought you may have access to ASM? Whoever does have access will need to remove the old MDM server and set up the new MDM Server in ASM and mark this as the default server in ASM. Once devices are wiped and reset they will enrol into the correct new MDM Server as long as a prestige enrolment profile has been assigned and configured correctly in this.

I only have access to the current MDM and ASM account, so looks like these iPad's are a bit of a lost cause. Regardless I have scheduled an Apple Support session to see if there is any way they could be transferred over.

If you have access to ASM and your current MDM that's everything you need access to. You need to add your current MDM in ASM and change the default, after this assuming you have auto enrollment configured the devices will be managed via the current MDM after being factory reset
