We have multiple Teams policies in place to prevent student access to chat and calls. However, when they go to OWA and click on the profile card of any user, the call and chat options are there allowing them to (ab)use the the features.

I cannot see any Exchange functions etc that would allow me to turn this off. Would the Teams Chat role permissions affect this?

Have you had to block this, and/or do you just rely on custom GALs to limit the ease of finding recipients to contact? As you can guess, students have worked out how to spam call teachers...

We have video and chat turned off for students.

The buttons are thre for staff to call students, but it fails.

Chat in Teams is on, as are video feeds in meetings.

Works well. Supervised chats, I think would be a bettter way aroudn this - does it work with video?

I cant remember the correct terms, but there are three levels.

Thinking aloud, the busy/call/video chat bits could be powered by EWS.

You could add to teh block list?

Yeah we have it set up like that. Here is the policy for students:

In Teams, you can see that Chat is missing (blocked) and searching for a user show the chat/call options greyed out. Correct.

However, in OWA, you can click on the contact card of any user and see the call/chat buttons which allows them to flow through and call them via Teams.

OWA mailbox policy settings:

OWA_mailbox_policy.pngI've blocked various mailbox features in the EAC and assigned the policy to the student, verfied that it has applied via a powershell Get-CASMailbox -Identity | Format-List owamailboxpolicy

No joy. Thought it might be a Delve feature, but can't see any way to manage these?

Bump. Getting desperate for a fix with this. Calls and chats are 100% blocked via Teams, tested and working. However, if the same student simply goes to OWA and hovers over a contact card, they can hit call/chat and Teams will just carry on as if there are no policies...

Not sure if you have the other policies set, but things like "call" (voice and audio calls) aren't call policies, they're private meetings (or at least were last time I looked at the settings). So they fall under the meeting settings, things like schedule private meetings/meet now etc.

The call settings you're referring to are for PBX style telephone calls with calling plans, so might be worth checking the other settings too

Will have a play tomorrow to see if we have the same you mentioned, but pretty sure the above used to be the case

As Steve said, check in your Meetings Policy as it's not a Call.teams.png

As you can see in the attached image for our Student's Meeting Policy, we have the options all turned off in the General section for the Students, and that worked for us.

We also have that in the Global Meeting Policy so some times we know when MS has reset users permissions as some staff will be unable to do meetings :)

Thanks, all. Unfortunately, it's one of the first things I've checked. Here they are:

I've obviously ensured that said policy is applied (via group membership) to the students.

The plot doth thicken...

As per post 3, the settings are working perfectly in Teams itself, but when they go to Outlook and hover over a profile card, they can call through Teams that way.
