MSI fails to start service

I'm trying to run the Equitrac Express Client MSI as an assigned package through group policy, however, it always errors with the error:

 

"Error 1920: Service EQ Shared Engine (EQSharedEngine) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient priveleges to start system services."

 

If you run the MSI interactively with all the tweaks, all the right options are filled in, but neither the tweaked or the original work when run at startup.

 

Any ideas on any of this stuff? Equitrac provide just an MSI, but I never managed to get anything out of them for deployment like this.

Just a guess but, what user account is the software attempting to use to run the service in. The MSI might be hard coded to use a specific user that is not created when run at system startup.

Once you have installed it successfully in interactive mode check in windows service manager to see which user is set in the Log On As column, if it is not local system or network service then this could be the problem. You would need to change the MSI package to set it to one of these so that it can be started up properly by the installer.

 

This may or may not be supported by the program as it may try to use features of the system that require user authentication but its worth a shot.
