paulkerton Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 More @SchoolsBroadband issues yet again. It keeps going down and returning for a few minutes. Been getting this since Friday now and no closer to a result. Is anyone else suffering with this company still? You get the feeling they've decided to run to capacity, then they'll invest to fix it, till they hit capacity again... I'm wondering if it going up and down a lot is stealth advertising for Pam and Tommy coming out today.
Sharkman Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 We've been having a lot of problems with them at the moment too, but ours is that the phone lines are awful at the minute. I'm guessing yours is the internet? Our issues started on Friday too so clearly something's up
snagrat Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Had a few reports of this today of service going up and down. Also reports from other schools of poor phone service so must all be related
Sharkman Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 I've heard that either BT or Updata have been having connectivity issues which could possibly be the source of it, all of our lines run through BT
paulkerton Posted February 2, 2022 Author Posted February 2, 2022 Our backbone carrier is Virgin Media, so its unlikely to be that. I would begin to guess that it's the core network.
cullingsh Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 All 11 of our sites have had issues since Friday afternoon where a site will lose connectivity for 2-10 minutes. The backup line does not kick in. Reporting the issues has not helped, and I have been reporting every instance that I've noticed. Communcations are, as always, terrible and when I tried to ring earlier, couldn't even get through to someone in connectivity issues department, just went to answerphone. I finally spoke to someone earlier in the Filtering/Firewall who hinted at a problem being fixed tonight, and disabling VRRP between our main and backup connections should temporarily alleviate the issue. I have since found a closed article on the TalkStraight Hub from last Thursday: "Hello, We are extending our BGP to additional routers in our network this evening, no impact is expected however the entire network is deemed AT RISK. This is in preparation for various other network improvements including throughput and additional peering. " I would say, it did have an impact, and has had an impact for the last few days.
paulkerton Posted February 2, 2022 Author Posted February 2, 2022 I finally spoke to someone earlier in the Filtering/Firewall who hinted at a problem being fixed tonight. We can look forward to any of our filtering and firewall changes suddenly being wiped out again overnight then?
SchoolsBroadband Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Hello folks, following the work last week we've been investigating and collating evidence from some customers and have discovered an issue with balancing of L2TP sessions which has affected some of our DSL platform. This has had a knock on effect to some customers with DSL backup as well as per the issue @cullingsh has mentioned. Remedial work is being conducted this evening to resolve the issue. @paulkerton we haven't seen any issues with Virgin as the backhaul carrier but I will send you a PM to discuss. Thanks Dave

SchoolsBroadband Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Evening @snagrat possibly yes but not for everyone. I'll send you a PM tomorrow with an update but do keep an eye on the portal. Thanks Dave
SchoolsBroadband Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Morning everyone. We believe this issue is now resolved following maintenance last night. We are watching traffic profiles and lt2p distribution ramp us as expected. We will keep monitoring. Please see the hub maintenance notification for further updates. Dave
