discoveranother Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Hi all, Trying to connect Outlook 2016 to office 365. I am aware that 2016 does not normally connect automatically as it throws up 'an encrypted connection to your mail server.....' error. Therefore, if you use a manual set up it throws up an autodiscover error and CNAME records need adding as per below. This normally solves the initial connection issues :- https://support.intermedia.com/app/articles/detail/a_id/25083/type/KB However, sometimes you have to add in the details manually as per below :- https://www.oryon.net/knowledge-base/article/manual-configuration-outlook-2013-for-microsoft-365/ This normally solves all other issues. However, in our instance we are not getting the 'more settings' box as shown below in this image :- We just get the following :- I hope this makes sense. Thanks all
discoveranother Posted January 19, 2022 Author Posted January 19, 2022 Further to my previous post, Outlook 2016 no longer has option to manually connect to Exchange Server and relies exclusively on autodiscover to connect to Exchange servers which we were aware of, but there was always the option to add in the settings manually.
MatthewL Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Have you got the relevant DNS records in place for autodiscover and the other 1 or 2 that is required (can't remember them off the top of my head) if its O365.

chaplic Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 your first premise that outlook 2016 does not normally autoconnect is wrong, thus I think you are trying to solve the wrong problem. Make autodiscover work. Create an outlook profile without any mail services, then holding control right click on outlook in bottom right area and select 'test email autoconfiguration'. Enter your email, untick the two guesssmart and click test Errors in the log are not necesarily a problem but needs interpreted... initital thoughts Is there an SCP entry in Active Directory pointing to now nonexistant exchange server? Similarly is there an SRV record in internal DNS? what happens when you call https://school.com/autoidscover/autodiscover.xml in a web browser ? 404 is ok, password prompt is a problem. Do you have any registry keys defined that would disable autodiscover types?
