[sims] SIMs Tracking and PaperCut

Hello,

 

We're having an issue where printing the tracking reports does not come out alphabetically - it mixes up the order of the prints.

 

Our SIMs support suggest that this is an issue they're aware about and advise using local printers instead.

 

Anyone using SIMs/PaperCut and having the same issue or have fixed it?

 

Any ideas and help would be appreciated!

What order do they come out in? And is it consistent with a field in SIMS / the tracking report.

I recall having this issue at a school once, I think we ended up sharing out a queue to 1 MFD and certain users had rights to print direct to that which resolved the issue, saved it going in the queue to be released. Obviously be mindful where the device is when printing as it will spit them straight out but its still tracked and no additional devices needed.

SIMs is outputting correctly we can see that on the computer however the order is jumbled when it's actually printing; they wait for the queue to hit the number and tick the box for apply settings to each print with the account to charge.

@MatthewL that sounds in-line with what our SIMs support company said; do you happen to know how/what you did for the change, I'm not sure I know how to do what you've described :-(

So you have your main virtual queue that stuff goes to then each printer is on the server as an output but not shared.

 

You have 2 options, share the output queue but my advice would be to install the queue again so the queues are totally separate call it SIMS_Report for example and set your defaults etc. Share it but in PaperCut printers restrict who can actually print to it as well as on the printer queue if you wanted to. Then update GPO to map it to said group. I would not set is as default but when it comes to them printing before they launch SIMS set it as default for that run of reports unless you can tell SIMS to use a specific printer for this purpose.

Thanks for taking the time to break down what you meant, that sounds like a good solution if they didn't have their own printer as PaperCuts work around (set default budget on printer to disable Auth popups) wouldn't be a good idea on an MFD. I'll keep that in mind if I ever have to move them to a shared printer.

One workaround might be to do what we do: rather than printing them, we export them (as PDF) to a folder. We then use the free PDFSAM Basic to merge them into a single PDF which can then be printed or shared electronically.
