I've used the HDMI over Ethernet style system before, worked really well and meant the PC could be kept in the server room / cupboard without needing ladders to get to it if needed.

Any particular recommended brands, from experience etc?

This.

The amount of time troubleshooting, implementing, fixing etc. I now just have a USFF Windows pc with XIBO that sits there and runs without any issue.

Is the PC on the domain as usual? Are you on wired or wireless network for it?

We use Kramer PT571 / PT572+ for some more awkward classroom runs and they've been no hassle. And you only need to power one of them (the other will POE). https://www.kramerav.com/Product/PT-571

We've got them domain joined like a normal PC. Only differences to our regular PCs are the auto-login (domain account) and the installed applications - Don't need anything other than the xibo client and PowerPoint. All our screen PCs are wired, but we have an old laptop for testing layouts and that seems happy enough over wireless.

If your PCs are USFF enough (we use the Asus mini PCs) then they can just be tucked behind the screen with maybe a bit of Velcro to keep them in place. Most of the time, they perch pretty well on the wall bracket.

This is exactly what we do

Just setup as a domain PC, wired in.
