Happening again @SchoolsBroadband

When will you ever accept that your move to Netsweeper was a massive mistake?

EDIT : My manager has been on hold for 15 minutes, with "Your call is very important to use, please wait for the next available agent" interrupting the hold music every 10 seconds. 90 times I've heard that now. :frusty:

Good morning everyone,

I don't yet have the full details but it appears that their may be a buffer overflow bug in the latest version of Netsweeper we've deployed on some new servers. This is getting rectified by ours and Netsweeper engineers and a patch is currently being deployed.

This is only affecting those on the new servers. As with any customer issue, we're very sorry for those who are affected. There's currently a link our customers can see for updates at https://hub.talk-straight.com/serverstatus.php

Thanks

@SchoolsBroadband - We have noticed here this morning that if we turn the PROXY off, we get unfiltered Internet. I haven't tested just how unfiltered, but I have got on some sites I really shouldn't be able to! Related? Anyone else seeing this?

Latest update from the team

"We are currently monitoring the first server that has been patched, since the patch has been applied this server and the other policy servers have remained stable.

Once we have completed the evaluation period we will roll the patch out to the remaining servers. This will be completed today.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support."

Are you willing to share to a non-customer what version you are on? I query as I have multiple instances, multiple versions and upcoming upgrades... be keen to know what is affected. Or at least can your Netsweeper support agent reach out to myself also/provide a reference?

So this seems to be fixed, but now once again every time you use Google Calendar it once again thinks you're a robot.

Going around in circles. Is it unreasonable to hope both things could be fixed?

How does your NAT work? I assume you are provided a static address to the net. Is it just yourself? I query as I run a handful of instances and every now and then, from the BYOD LAN (which now has its own NAT rule for this reason...) they get Google captcha, turns out a pesky child had an android device with a VPN. Android talks home from the device using the VPN and also over the non-VPN side, if you capture you'll see the occasional android client check in through the filtering, Google spots that and thinks something is sus with the public IP. We have it in our non-HTTPS inspection networks also, and its instantly recognisable.

Worth having a quick look, if its wider spread though then something may need looking at, assuming you are each running your own public NAT and you aren't (hopefully) brought to a core to be NAT'd and share that NAT rule!

sure happy to help.

I'll send you a PM.

Dave

I appreciate that, thank you!

"Currently experiencing slow speed issues with Netsweeper" just had come through.

One day they will admit that going back to 20th Century technology in the 21st Century has been a disaster. One day.

We've now been getting "Are you a robot?" alerts for 2 and a half weeks and we're told "It will go on its own within 24 hours"

408 hours and counting...

Do you have any devices on site that appear as a different SB provided public IP? Unsure if they operate the same as us, but all inbound services get their own IP as we 1-2-1 NAT. Worth seeing if it's that or if they can flip your public address quick to test.

And now we have the same problem again...

EDIT: SLT are now on the warpath. They're furious that this keeps happening. It's pretty disgraceful really.

Our LA connection fell over less than this, and that was dependent on far too old SQUID boxes and connectivity via the nearest High School as a node.

Our office based staff are using their phones to tether to get anything done now.
