SQL Update on SCCM Server

Hi all,

 

Looking to update the free version of SQL that comes with SCCM. Been keeping SCCM itself up to date but thought it was about time I updated the backend (particularly as I am currently having trouble running WSUS cleaning scripts).

 

Has anyone done this and, if so, how do I go about it? Particualrly keen on finding out how the included licence gets applied. Is it as simple as downloading the SQL installer from the SCCM section on VLSC and running it?

I thought the SCCM licence came with an SQL full licence too?

It does as long as it's run on the same server instance as SCCM.

My understanding is that it doesn't have to run on the same server instance but that it cannot be used for anything that isn't SCCM related.

The key is built in to the SQL server install. You have to upgrade Reporting Services first, as it's now a separate installer, which requires the same key...

 

Run the SQL installer to the point of being able to copy the product key out to somewhere safe and then use that product key in reporting services as well.
