OFNF Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Hi All, I have had a few students having issues with running modules in Python. I have discovered what is happening they are trying to use turtle and creating a module called Turtle.py then trying to run the module they get an error as its trying to import the file rather than the module. once it has broken it writes something to their data folder because as soon as i gave my test account a fresh data path it sorts it. does anyone know locations that IDLE writes to so i can try and clear those files rather than creating new data paths for students with the issue. Cheers, OFNF
Boredguy Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Have you tried calling the python file something other than turtle.py since it's a known module and you can't have files with the same name as inbuilt modules?
OFNF Posted November 10, 2021 Author Posted November 10, 2021 Hey thanks for your reply. yeah it seems once they have done this once doesnt seem to matter what module I try to import it still holds onto this issue.
mavhc Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Hmm, my pupil had the same problem once, but renaming the file fixed it. Check AppData\Roaming\Python\Python38\site-packages or similar
OFNF Posted November 12, 2021 Author Posted November 12, 2021 tried that location and weirdly there isnt anything in appdata pertaining to Python. odd as there isnt a redirect for this and its just a standard install of IDLE
mavhc Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 That's python 3.8, 3.7 has stuff in C:\Python37\Lib\site-packages More info: https://stackoverflow.com/a/50921138
