lmrogers Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Morning All, Just a quick one. I have a teacher on site who has been writing on a brand new Viewsonic interactive touchscreen with her board marker pen. She says it is OK though as it just wipes off. Question is does anyone have any link to any evidence that says the chemicals in the spray could potentially damage the screen. She has not listened when we have asked her not to write on it. Cheers
paulkerton Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 It should be OK as long as they're not low odour dry erase markers. They should definitely NOT be using chemical sprays to clean the screen though. Why is she using a dry erase marker if she has an interactive pen to write with?!?
chazzy2501 Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Some screens may have a coating that'll get upset by this, plus if the panel using infrared you may end up clogging the sensors with dry erase dust.
localtech Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Show the teacher this tell them how much they cost to replace & ask them if they can afford it? normally works when I have this sort of trouble. MaintenanceGeneral Precautions• Make sure the device is turned off and unplugged.• Never spray or pour any liquid directly onto the device.• Handle the device with care.Cleaning the Device• Use a soft, dry cloth.• Wipe the device with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. This removes dust and other particles.Disclaimer• ViewSonic® does not recommend the use of any ammonia or alcohol-based cleaners on the display screen or case. fiendishlyclever Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Notify her in writing and copy her line manager in. Then you have a clear papertrail if it does get damaged... 2
DrBeaker Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 This is a human problem not a tech problem - Likely to void the warranty with ViewSonic. Costly repair or more likely a replacement. Plus downtime, disruption and time to sort and install costs for replacement. All because someone was too stubborn to listen to the people who know more than her? If the policy is not to write on them and they do, well that's no longer an IT issue to solve especially when it comes to money.
Driftingforlife Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Report her to management for defacing a 2-3k+ bit of equipment.
