Google Classroom - one parent having issues

I have one parent who gets the Google Classroom guardian invite email, but nothing happens when they click accept.

 

They also have another pupil in the school and it has worked fine for that pupil.

 

Any ideas?

Use GAM or go into a Classroom the student is in, to check if the accept worked anyway.

There have been a few issues where that occurs, but then they appear in GAM to have been successful.

We've also had it where if they click to accept the invite but are signed into another Google account, it just auto accepts it as that address. If you go into the Classroom admin, do you still see their email with (invited) next to their name? That means the invite hasn't been accepted, if the (invited) bit is missing, it means it's been accepted.

 

If we have issues, we ask the parent to make sure they're signed out of all Google accounts or open their email via an icognito/private window, getting them to sign out of all Google accounts seems to be easier for most parents to understand though. Incognito is one of those trigger words that sparks the "I'm not good with computers" spiel!

That's by design.

An annoying design, but it is deliberate.

Just checked the Classroom pupils list and it has 'Invited' next to the pupils name, so assume its not gone through.

 

I'll try to workout if they are logged into Chrome as another user.

IIRC, if a parent is signed into their child's Google Workspace account ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), the behind-the-scenes linking of the guardian summaries to the logged in Google account quietly fails.

Are you saying that if the parent logs into Chrome as the pupil, then gets an email to their hotmail account, the guardian aproval will fail?

Yes, but I have only half a memory of that happening tbh. It could be tested, though. If it were the case, I'd expect the invitation to still show as pending, rather than complete.

 

If you have gam, "gam print guardians invitations student " will show you whether the invitation is still pending or not. Similarly, the Google Classroom UI would also show (Invited) if it's pending, as described in post #3.

It does still show 'Invited', which I assume means they have ben invited but not approved.

 

EDIT - BTW I dont have GAM setup

We've had this and the fix was to accept the invitation in chrome incognito as it them forces a sign in of the relevant account.

Yeah, I think regardless of whether they're signed into their child's account or not, the advice will need to be the same. Sign out of all Google accounts in your web browser, and then try accepting the invitation again. Make the advice as platform-independent as possible, since there's a good chance that they're on an iPhone and not using desktop Chrome.
