[sims] CTF import for new pupil - 'Other School' error...

Can someone please tell me how a school's URN number is changed on SIMS?

 

Specifically if we have an old/incorrect number for a school and it needs to be changed, how is this done?

 

Is it automatic, is there a patch, is it manual (and how would we know if a school changes its URN)?

Tools>Other Schools search for the school and you can put whatever you want into the box. I don't believe the URN is a req field so some of ours are blank.

Thanks, yeah I can see 'where' to change it - just not sure I should.

 

Story is that we have had a new pupil join the school and importing the CTF into SIMS gave our admin the error that basically said the URN on the CTF from the previous school didn't match the URN in 'Other Schools'.

 

I don't use SIMS, but did a bit of digging and found out the path you mention and noticed 3 entries for the school... the first 2 are Infant Schools and the last one is a Primary, the first two don't have a URN but saw that the URN in the Primary School isn't the same as the URN in the CTF (looking it up on the DFE website shows it is the old Infant School's URN).

 

Just really wondered how those fields are populated, as nobody here knows anything about it or how it got there!

 

So, if it isn't a required field can I presume it just looks only at DfE number?

 

To make matters worse our admin is sure we have imported CTFs from children who have been to this school before with no issues...

 

Edit: Just to check what happens to pupil data (School History > Previous Schools) if we manually change the details in the 'Other Schools' page?

 

After a bit of checking it appears they converted to an academy last year, same name, same DfE number but different URN!

Ok, so a quick update...

 

I changed the URN in the 'Other School' details and our admin tried importing the CTF again.

 

It is still giving the error that 'no previous school details exist in the CTF'!

 

The previous error for the mismatch of URNs has gone though... so that much has worked..

 

EDIT: AAAAAAAGH!!!! Forget it! I've just checked for differences between the imported CTF and one of our old exported CTFs and the header for 'School History' isn't even in the imported one...

 

Not using SIMS I didn't know what I was looking for, I presumed it was taken from the 'Source School' header?

 

Is this something someone needs to tick when exporting their CTF?
