CC3 Server install

Hi All

silly question i need a answer to can you install a CC3 server yourself or do you have to always have to have a RM aproved engineer to install it? it's just i alway had RM engineers to install a new server and thought can it be done myself? is they instructions somewhere what about the RM software do they supply it?

They don't provide instructions to do it they insist it should be done by RM.

 

It's not impossible to do it yourself but RM will not support you or your school if you do.

RM are now offering "Eco Installs" whereby you can unpack the server yourself, power it up, configure its network and hand it over to remote support to do the commission. - So I suppose you could copy what they do but the cost saving on an eco install was around 50% in our last quote.

My last quote the cost saving was less than 10% for an Eco install so I didn't bother.

Well it turns out that they don't have the time any way to do a server install becuase of rolling out CC4 if i want a CC4 server install no problems! but not CC3 arhhhhhhhhh Cost of install is even better they say that a local approved company can do it cheaper then a eco install and thats coming to my site!

Is that what they actually said on the phone, 'we don't have the time for CC3, but if it's CC4 then we do' That's poor customer service to say the least! Just because they no longer sell the product doesn't mean they should ignore customers who currently use it! That response from a company would really annoy me.

I booked an additional CC3 server install yesterday, no problem at all and got the first date I asked for.

 

Butuz, I'd be interested in knowing a bit more about your site/RM account team because they are supopsed to be driving Eco forward not making it prohibitively expensive.

Same issue to what you've all been talking about.

 

We need to replace our CC3 Forest Root Server and RM will charge £ 1,800 to commission it BUT if we buy our hardware from some where else they will bump this up to £2,800????

 

I've had a few problems in the past and its put me off from buying RM servers.

 

What are your views on this?

Personally think its a rip off!! Though RM did educational discounts?

Go vanilla. It'll be a lot cheaper in the long run! We saved at least 5k going this way
