ID Badge Printing

Morning,

 

I'm looking for a bit of software that may or may not exist.

 

Each year we have to print ID badges for our 6th form and staff which include their picture. Currently we have an old in house built system which is no longer maintained as the person that made it has left without leaving documentation.

 

The process essentially is the user logs in with their AD Account and it takes them through the process of taking their picture. It then automatically crops it and puts it into a predefined template for the school and populates their name and job title from their AD attributes.

 

We then also have to scan it into our canteen tills as the previous network manager then wrote a PowerShell script to export the card ID from the canteen's database and then sync it across the various systems we have on site.

 

I'm looking for an easier way to manage this and one that can be easily supported.

 

If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

 

We currently have EntrySign for a digital visitor management solution and will be getting Paxton access control in the next few months.

The Paxton software will print badges and store photos and its very easy to use.

We add the photos manually but we only use badges for staff - no 6th form here.

I believe you can get an add-in for the Paxton software which will allow it to integrate with AD to help centralise things, but we don't use that.

I'd recommend Net2 as well, and then Salamander for the Sync.

 

If you have the card ID in AD in the right format, then they may well be able to sync that as well.

 

I think there is a free version of net2 that you might be able to setup earlier

Paxton here to, with a datacard printer we just manually create and print staff/6th form passes. We just had a brand change so i spent the better part of 2 weeks sorting all that out!!!

 

Net2 also links into our InVentry sign in system for staff, which is another handy tool.

We use Paxton Net2 along with Salamander. Salamander setups all the fields you need and it exports the photos from our SIMS.

We have even added barcodes to our ID cards too (for use with InVentry and library system).

So I have finally had Paxton installed and used that to setup the card templates with Salamander syncing all the details and photos through to Net2.

 

I am however now looking at a new piece of software which will be able to read the Mifare token when a card is printed and write it back to AD which Salamander will then be able to write into Net2, so that would make the whole ID badge printing much quicker and easier.

 

I would then just have to work out a way to get all new sixth formers pictures in SIMS before school photo day so that they can get their badges at the start of each year.

You will have to let us know how this works and if it works, what the software/defice is you are using. At the moment we print the card off in order then manually add them to the Paxton system using a card reader.

Yes would be interested in what software this is. I'm presuming it is a specific printer that has an RFID scanner built in?

The software is called CardExchange Enterprise Edition v10 and the company that are selling it are packaging it with HiTi CS-200e Single sided ID Card Printer with

 

I'm just waiting to get sign off on the purchase before I can test, but from what I'm told essentially all the card design and printing is all done in CardExchange which links with AD and then Salamander can handle all the syncs between SIMS/AD and Net2.

I threaten to use their lower school photo if they don't provide a picture, surprising how well this works!
