andyt57 Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 One of my schools has recently purchased a refurbished HP Proliant ML30 Gen 9 server on which I have so far totally failed to install Microsoft Server 2019. The server has 4 drive bays and I have populated the first 2 drives bays with Crucial 250Gb SSDs and set them up with the Dynamic Smart Array B140i RAID utility as RAID 1. I have two 3Gb Seagate Ironwolf drives for the other two slots but haven't installed them yet. I downloaded the latest version of Server 2019 and used Rufus to install it to a USB drive, in GPT, UEFI (non CSM) and NTFS mode. Following the Rufus instructions I went into the server BIOS and disabled secure boot. Using the USB stick the server boots into the Windows Server 2019 install screens until I get to the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen and the RAID drive is not listed as drive 1. If I then cancel the installation and select Repair your computer and access DiskPart through the command prompt the RAID disk is not listed, only drive 0 (the USB drive). So I rebooted the server using a live Ubuntu USB stick. Using Gparted I could access the RAID drive which was unallocated. So I created a GPT partition on the drive and formatted it in NTFS. I could then see the drive in Ubuntu. I then rebooted the server using the Microsoft Server 2019 USB drive and when I got to the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen I still couldn't see the RAID drive and neither could DiskPart. How do I get Server 2019 installed on this machine? Should I just disable the Dynamic Smart Array B140i RAID and use Server 2019 software RAID instead? Andrew

If I browse to the folder it just returns "No signed device drivers were found." There doesn't seem to be any way to force it to install a driver. Andrew
mdrabble Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I installed a PCI Sata SSD card with 2 x M2 drives mirrors for the OS and then used then HP controller to create the array for data.
andyt57 Posted July 31, 2021 Author Posted July 31, 2021 This is getting annoying. I disabled the B140i RAID, rebooted into AHCI SATA and successfully installed Server 2019 on the first SSD. But I can't now install the B140i RAID driver because it is not enabled! And if I re-enable B140i RAID then the system won't boot properly but goes straight into system recovery mode! Andrew
3s-gtech Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I’d guess that driver I linked is no good then - with the right one it’ll allow the controller to be used for the Windows install.

ordeology Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 I've had a similar problem, I found that the way Rufus creates the bootable ISO is not right for UEFI GPT so I used this method https://www.hyper-v.io/create-bootable-usb-windows-server-2019-installation/

ITGURU Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 I've installed 2019 on 350 Gen 5 6 and 10 servers without any issues. I've always used RUFUS to make the bootable USB - UEFI then when the server boots, choose boot from USB key and installed windows without any issues.

I now have successfully installed Server 2019 on a RAID 1 array with the two SSDs and a further 2 data drives in another RAID 1 array. 1
