RedStor Issue - Server Reboots

Posting in case someone has experienced similar???

 

Been using Redstor ESE for many years, to protect data and various key servers (full system backup) and has worked without an issue. Except a couple of weeks ago, when one file server started failing to backup. Upon further investigation it appears that at some stage during the backup process the application faults and results in the (VM) server rebooting (full power cycle, not a clean shutdown / restart).

 

I initially contacted Redstor who looked at the logs, and suggested we need to contact Microsoft... not content with that, I started the painstaking process of excluding all the folders and (re)selecting the various (sub)folders one-by-one, doing a backup and if successful include the next (sub) folder and try again.

 

Currently, I've a few folders excluded at present that appear to cause the backup process / server to crash (if included) but there's still a long way to go, both in reselecting the remaining folders (and test backing up one-by-one) and also deciphering which folder(s)/file(s) within the excluded sub-folders are actually causing the backup process to crash!

 

I will continue to liaise with Redstor support etc.
