ryanplym Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Morning all Our main core switch failed on Monday and we are unable to get a hold of any fibre switches. The unit that has failed is a D-Link dxs-3600-32s/si - The switch powers on but the 24 pot LED lights constantly stay on with the fans constantly spinning. The LED lights then turn off but the fans are still spinning then just cycles. I have tried to connect a network cable into the console and mngt port but I just get a "identifying network" with a 169 address. We are currently up and running with a single switch that had a couple of ports free for the fibers (Really lucky!) the rest of the school is running on 4G dongles. The reason for this post is: 1. Has anyone else had this issue with a D-Link switch and able to find an easy solution 2. Has anyone got a spare D-Link or compatible switch we can purchase or even borrow until a new one from Europe arrives (between 10-15 days). Happy to collect in person Not a fun week Thanks
slugshead Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 I'd never touch a D-Link switch as an access switch in a commercial sense, let alone as a core! I recently got an Aruba 5406R with 2 x 8 port SFP+ cards, 1 x 24 port POE card and 2 PSU's for around 5k. I'd really consider that an option/change to upgrade! 1

Use putty, connect using 8N1 Baudrate 115200 I also use the same model and not had any issues apart from then I ordered a second ans had a stacking issues which was firmware related - they emailed a firmware version not on the uk site. Have you contacted their support site - Bit slow but replied the following day for me. 1

A very kind gentleman has sorted me out a switch so we will be sorted tomorrow. I have tried putty with the console but I am not getting any response from the switch at all it just says "Network cable unplugged" I was thinking about flashing it with the firmware from the D-LINK site but unable to locate a backdoor
chazzy2501 Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 I don't know the switch in question but does it not have a com port for a serial putty connection? (rj45 com port maybe in dual personality?)

Unrelated to @ryanplym 's issue, I'm having a load of fibre upgrades done over the summer to replace 10 over-length 1gb copper links and was struggling to find an appropriate switch to recieve them all... mdrabble Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Depending on if you need to reload the firmware, you need to check which hardware version the switch is - it will either be A or B Dlink aren't quite upto date with putting their firmware on their website... using their FTP site you can get the latest firmware (2.61.B016) for Hardware Version B from this link. ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dxs/dxs-3600-32s/driver_software/DXS-3600-32S_fw_revB_2-61-B016_20200302.zip 1
