Jaan Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Hi Guys, Interested on hearing if anybody uses Google Workspace (I Think thats what it's called this week) and using Google SMTP service with bromcom. Bromcoms 3000 per month vs Google 10,000 emails. Seems a no brainer to go with Google. Anybody actually using this setup? Any "got yas" you're aware of that might be worth knowing? Am i right to assume that Google's SMTP server is NOT a user account, but a separate service configured via the admin panel on Google? Ta
Oaktech Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 We were. it stopped working. Our MAT set up something via AWS. We were going to use MailGun before the MAT central IT stepped in.
slugshead Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 I use the google SMTP for everything. Not had any issues. What you do need to do though, in your admin console is whitelist your public IP address to use smtp-re Apps > Workspace > Settings for Gmail > Routing > SMTP relay service, add a rule with your public IP's. If you've got multiple IPs you'll have to enter them in the CIDR format
paulkerton Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 We use the SMTP relay service too, had no issues. Exactly how slugshead has suggested, you need to list the IPs from Bromcom.
Jaan Posted June 29, 2021 Author Posted June 29, 2021 That's great guys thanks. the details i put into bromcom are smtp.google.com or smtp.gmail.com cheers
slugshead Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 smtp. will limit to 500 a day Whitelist your addresses and use smtp-relay. for the higher limits 1

slugshead Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Isn't it bromcoms IP that need whitelitsing? Depends where the emails originate from, if it's on prem then I would assume the school addresses, if hosted by Bromcom then I would assume their addresses
paulkerton Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 @Bromcom_Support would be the best people to ask.
Jaan Posted June 29, 2021 Author Posted June 29, 2021 @Bromcom_Support would be the best people to ask. their solution will be to buy an upgraded smtp plan from them 1
timbo343 Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 I could never get the Google SMTP working for us and as soon as Google detected more than 80 connections, google refused the connection. We moved to Bromcom's SMTP that uses SendGrid. We do find that those parents that use the smaller, less known email providers often report that the emails from bromcom end up in junk.
Edu-IT Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 SendGrid is free via Azure for 10,000 per month, from memory.
