Hi All,

I hope someone can help, Within the Student - Teacher view in SIMS, parent email addresses are shown as links which should open the configured email client when clicked. However when staff try to click on these links a yellow circle with an exclamation mark in it appears in the bottom left of the page and says 'Mail Client is not configured' Capita advised us to set outlook 2019 as the default mail app but that hasn't worked. I have also reinstalled office as advised but no change.

Capita then just tell you go and speak with Microsoft but when I did, they haven't got a clue either because why would they???!!!

The only other suggestion Capita have is that some reg keys may be missing...but they don't give any indication of which ones...

Cheers,

Dan

This sounds like it's actually just a Windows configuration that's needed rather than anything within SIMS itself. The default email application in Windows is probably not configured (i.e. the application that opens up when an email address is clicked on). If your organsiation uses Office Outlook for accessing email, then in Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Email, select Outlook from there. If you don't use Office Outlook for emails and instead use a web-based email service, you may be out of luck, although Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge can also be selected there as the default email application, with settings within those browsers to direct to the relevant email service online (e.g. Gmail). Not all online email services will necessarily be compatible with that setting, however.

It kinda depends on what your organisation's email service is.

Hi,

Thanks for this, they use office 2019 so capita recommended setting outlook as default but that doesn't seem to help at all. Cheers for the idea though. I could try setting chrome as the default to get around it maybe.
