MrBitey Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 Hi all, Our head has tasked me with sourcing a PA for us to use during sports day. We are lucky to have lots of wide open space and the head wants to commentate on the races as they happen. So, it needs to be loud but also battery-powered as the fields are a fair way away from the school building. This is well reviewed: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bose-S1-System-Bluetooth-Speaker/dp/B07D4JJNSD but doesn't look that large so I am not sure if it will be loud enough. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!
dhicks Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 Does anyone have any suggestions? "Loud" is, of course, relative, but we've got on okay with the QTX QT12PA (£170): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MRY9KD9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title Battery powered (just charges straight from mains, no external DC power brick needed), comes with wireless mics and bluetooth functionality. What can help volume a fair bit is having the speaker on a stand (£25) so the sound gets above head height: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003BJJNGE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title You can daisy-chain the above speakers together, although there's no XLR output, so you'll need a phono-to-XLR adaptor (£10): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ET0EF94/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title and, of course, a decent-length XLR cable. QTX have individual spare mics available separatly for when the originals get lost. The speaker unit doesn't have anywhere to actually store the mics, we find some industrial-strength velcro stuck each side works quite well. The mics aren't the best build-quality, you get a bit of handling noise as you move them around, but they're not too bad - you can always plug in a wired mic if preffered. 1
bald_pig Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 For that sort of money you can get a pair of these: https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/QTX-QR15PA-Portable-PA-System-with-Wireless-Mics/G6M 2
3s-gtech Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 I like the ION Block Rockers. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ION-Audio-Block-Rocker-Plus/dp/B07NF99G6H Compact, loud, good battery life. Cheap too. May be worth going for the Sport model for water resistance. 1
mikkydoos Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 Have a look at some Alesis gear. I've got a few and are 50w. Bluetooth too.
MrBitey Posted June 16, 2021 Author Posted June 16, 2021 Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've gone for a QTX-QR15PA and a stand. Fingers crossed the head will be happy!
