Hikvision IVMS4200 replacement

Hi All

 

Having a torrid time with IVMS 4200. Tried latest versions etc. Not displaying cameras, not playing back footage reliably, crashing, crashing the pc etc. It's horrible.

 

Has anyone found a replacement that's preferably free, though I am willing to pay if there's some 3rd party slick fast reliable software that can connect to the existing hik NVR and allow my site team to use the CCTV reliably!

 

The actual cameras and NVR are working perfectly - it's the software that's letting us down!

You could look at the Hik Professional suite. Runs on a dedicated server then the client can be installed wherever and runs much better

I had more success with the lite version of IVMS although is still crashes if you try to playback view more than say 4 cameras

Yes that thought crossed my mind but then so did the idea that if the free software is garbage the paid-for software will probably still be somewhat garbage?

Will try Lite. Ideally need to play back from more than 4 cameras sometimes but will try it!

We found that if you *consistently* STOP the video playback before switching screens or adding cameras the software was more reliable.

 

We have also implemented a policy that requires the computer to be fully logged off after a case has been reviewed. This has the benefit that the app is shutdown regularly.

 

Since doing both these things, nobody has complained about it locking up or crashing.

We have had similar issues in the past with 4200. But since the latest PC refresh and with hardware decoding turned on, it does work somewhat stable (as stable as HikVision software can be!!).

What hardware are you running?

 

My current annoyance with the software is the pain it is to make updates on every client whenever there are changes to the cameras or NVRs. Which during our ongoing analogue to IP project (spreading costs [emoji17]), is testing my patience.

 

I only asked my supplier today for HikCentral prices for 128 cameras (secondary school, multiple outbuildings), nearly £4k! Not happening! [emoji51]

 

Not been able to find any reliable 3rd party software, if anyone does I'd be interested to try!
