Student information - converting hard copies to electronic and upload to MIS

SLT want to convert all hard copies of student information (100s of pupils going back several years) to an electronic version to store on the network - Besides this being a huge job, the question is where to store these once they're converted.

The ideal place would be to link these to each pupils MIS profile.

Has anyone done this? My first worry would be the load on our MIS Server (Sims) with all this additional data.

We have done this although we've not gone for everything scanned in, in one go. Bit at a time. Papercut on MFD allows scanning directly to SharePoint. SharePoint site setup with folders for leavers years, then scan actions for each folder. So you pick the year they left, load up the paperwork (Which hopefully will go through the document feeder), name the file with the students name and click scan. Edited by robyholmes

I seem to remember sharp offed something like this with papercut, linked to SIMS. On the printer, select student and scan in document, gets uploaded to DMS from memory.

Sharp have or had a product called Scan 2 Sims which linked to SIMS but you need a certain model or feature available on your Sharp for this.

I believe the Arena product from what I had seen and used before was just scan to a network folder which the software that run in the background picked up from so could be used on pretty much anything with scan to network features.
