Graphics Card Pricing on ebay ?

Have i missed the revamp or bitcoin ? or lack of supply because of covid ?

 

I have noticed for example a RX VEGA 64 8GB graphics card is selling used for £600+ on ebay ?

 

Brand new they were £350 in 2019 !

 

Please some one enlighten me what i have missed as maybe worth selling it !

I have just checked a few online retailers, apart from the low end cards there is nothing available.What a crazy world we live in !

It isn't bitcoin, but Ethereum and other alt-coins. They mine very nicely on graphics cards still (bitcoin has moved on to dedicated ASICs).

 

For example, my RTX 2060 SUPER, is mining away whilst I am not using the PC. I am averaging about £100 in returns monthly on it, with about £20 in electricity costs running the PC when I don't normally run it. Scale that up if you've got the capital to buy cards in bulk and you can make a huge profit.

More to do with the chip shortage I would say than crypto currency. Simple supply and demand.

Yep. Major problems in Taiwan. I think the US is trying to ramp up production, but it's likely going to take a couple of years to get levels back to what they were.

Which is annoying because I've needed to upgrade my graphics card for a year already...

 

Pre-builts PCs seem to be the only way you can get hold of a graphics card for near the RRP. Novatech had a good offer on yesterday.

Lots of global lockdowns have led to people wanting to upgrade what kit they have in order to have a better gaming experience at home.

It's not just graphics cards, the price of allused hardware is through the roof!

 

GTX 1080 founders editions were selling a week or two ago for about £500!

That's just £120 less than their launc price!

Yup, cheapest way I could get my 3060 was by buying a whole system for £1k (plus better ram and a 1TB NVME SSD), swapping that and the new bits out for the old ones in mine (inc a GTX 970) and selling the old system for £600. Works out that assuming the 970 is worth £150 currently and the SSD was £90, then I've effectively got the 3060 for £260 plus an upgrade to my RAM and mainboard as a bonus.

I paid £200 for a pair of my old 970's a few years ago, immediately sold one for £150 back then. It's madness

Yeah been that way for awhile, not really much to do with crypto mining, more just there is a real shortage of supply right now. My oldest had saved to build a new gaming rig but we couldn't get a reasonably priced graphics card for months. We had alerts set up for a bunch of online stores but any stock that comes in gets bought almost instantly (probably by bots of resale on ebay).

 

Ended up going for a prebuilt system (from AO of all places). Works out slightly more expensive then if we had built it ourselves but was actually a surprising decent deal and not a bad bit of kit.
