Finance software from The Access Group - anyone using them?

Their support is terrible.

 

They want us to give rights to the finance staff to be able to install software and make registry changes!

 

Am I right to try and resist this and ask for decent software?

 

Obviously I've not been involved in the process to find a solution to replace our existing PSF / Sage solutions!

We had the misfortune of using their Focalpoint solution. Fix for everything was them either using the SA password or giving users local admin to machines. Glad to get rid as were our finance team

Even if they tell you that - it isn't. Far from it!

I had to produce a 7 page word document of instructions on how to setup a workstation for their software!

Going against the grain of what the other folks have reported... we have had little to no issues with their system once set up. We certainly didn't need to give any additional access rights to anyone and the only slightly tricky problem was getting the budgeting package to work through our Smoothwall which was cured by an edit of a config file in their software's folder.

Did they do select HR? That was awful software.

Better than FMS. Fully web based. Not as feature complete as some more mature modern systems. Has come along in the last few years. Our Business Manager took the view that while it didn't have all the features they might want, it had enough that it worked for us. It was also very low cost compared to the competition.

Editing the registry for permissions (only required on install problems)

 

Java must have high level user rights (like an administrator) to run FBI services, the problem is the user does not have these levels so on occasion can encounter problems using the software. The following is a quick method of elevating Java so that a user can run FBI

 

1. As the machines administrator from the start menu type regedit.exe

 

2. You’ll see a screen looking something similar to this:-

In order to do so we will need to add http://payrollfbi.accessacloud.com to the Java Exceptions in “Configure Java”.

 

We may also need to Edit the registry for permissions as outlined in the attached document, if we receive an Access Denied error when logging in to FBI.

We use the cloud hosted stuff (Focalpoint and Dimensions), Focalpoint is web based but Dimensions is a remote app running off one of their RDS hosts. Don't really have that many issues although the fact that clicking "Export to Excel" in a RemoteApp opens Excel as a Remote App is confusing until explained properly to finance staff - however Dimensions only gets used by a couple of people, vs everyone using Focalpoint.

 

As an end user I think I prefer Focalpoint over the PSF purchase order web portal thing.
