Best way to Migrate from Exchange to O365

Hope everyone is well!

 

I'm just looking for some guidance if possible on the best way to migrate all our Exchange email server across to O365. I've move GApps to O365 and an old County Email system over but never from Exchange.

 

Any software packages that make the task easier, any tips and tricks you can share I'd really appreciate it.

You can Hybrid migrate, or cutover. Cutover doesn't leave you with the need to keep running the old box. Hybrid ends up working rather like Exchange to Exchange - you move mailboxes etc across via the ECP.

/Cutover I think sounds like the best way to go. Is there anything you'd reccomend I do or look out for? Is the process fairly straight forward or is it a pain?

I've only worked on Hybrid personally, as it suits the way I'm choosing to carry on using Exchange. However, MS documents cutover pretty well:

Having Outlook Anywhere set up, especially on older versions, is the proviso. You also need to make sure your accounts work between your on-prem and O365 environments okay - so that permissions are in place to move the mailboxes.

To move my mailboxes i chose codetwo cheap and it works

How many mailboxes are we talking and what do you need from the end result? Is it just a few mailboxes and you don't need to have/use ADConnect to keep details in sync with AD or have you got 100's/1000's of users to move?

 

If it's the former then I'd probably be tempted just to export to PST and import, if it's the latter then hybrid or another 3rd party tool - hybrid works really well though!
