So, I'm next on the rota for some IT Cpd next week. My audience is all support staff. This ranges from those who regularly use IT (data officers etc) to cleaners that hardly ever use a device.

I'm really struggling on how to pitch it. Surely it would be better to have some kind of carousel scenario getting them logged in etc.

Any suggestions would be truly amazing..

Could you do something on data protection and privacy? I'm sure it's covered formally somewhere else, but maybe some practical advice that those who don't use school systems might also find useful for their own stuff.

Ask them all - it might draw a blank, but it might surprise you... either way, no response removes their right to grumble about what they receive, but won't stop them!

How about security what with recent events.

How to spot scam emails, password best practices like not using the same one for multiple services etc, stuff like that.

I'd call the session something like "essential skills". Put an agenda out with the first 15 minutes a walk though of the kind of thing that should be in every induction. How to log on, change password, where to save stuff, how to access email, teams shared areas etc. Summarise the AUP perhaps. Then no one has an excuse not to use the computers. Everyone has the minimum knowledge required. The rest of the session would be a "Open Skills workshop". Those who don't use computers often can practice the content from the first part. Anyone else can raise subjects that they need help with. Either on the day or beforehand, that would be up to you. You could put a few items in there yourself in case you get nothing back. Filtering data in Excel, good power point practice, how to use the IWBs.
